He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
