The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
