The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
