The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
