Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 About the criminals, 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
