I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning for people -- 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
