Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
