The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
