The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
