The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
