The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
