The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
