Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
