The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
