The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
