The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
