The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 It will be a place of return 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
