If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 and they bar them from the way, and they think they are guided, 37 Until when he cometh unto Us, he will say. Ah! would that there had been between me and thee, the distance of the east and the west an evil companion 38 And it profiteth you not this day, because ye did wrong, that ye will be sharers in the doom. 39 CANST THOU, perchance, [O Muhammad,] make the deaf hear, or show the right way to the blind or to such as are obviously lost in error? 40 So if We take you away, We shall then indeed take revenge from them. 41 Or show you what We have promised them – We therefore have complete control over them. 42 So hold thou fast unto that which has been revealed unto thee; surely thou art upon a straight path. 43 And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
