The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
