The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
