And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
