The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is overthrown, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was killed 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 When the world on High is unveiled; 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is certainly the guidance for all (jinn and mankind). 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
