So they twain set out till, when they were in the ship, he made a hole therein. (Moses) said: Hast thou made a hole therein to drown the folk thereof? Thou verily hast done a dreadful thing. 71 He said: Did I not say that you will not be able to have patience with me? 72 Said [Moses]: "Take-me not to task for my having forgotten [myself,] and be not hard on me on account of what I have done!" 73 Then they both proceeded, till they met a boy, he (Khidr) killed him. Musa (Moses) said: "Have you killed an innocent person who had killed none? Verily, you have committed a thing "Nukra" (a great Munkar - prohibited, evil, dreadful thing)!" 74 ۞ Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 75 (Moses) said: If I ask thee after this concerning aught, keep not company with me. Thou hast received an excuse from me. 76 So they went on until they came to a town. They asked its people for food, but were refused hospitality. They found a wall in the town which was about to fall down. His companion buttressed it and Moses said, "Had you wished, you could have demanded payment for your labours." 77 He said, “This is the parting between you and me; I shall now tell you the interpretation of the matters you could not patiently bear.” 78 "The boat belonged to some destitute people who were using it as a means of their living in the sea. The king had imposed a certain amount of tax on every undamaged boat. I damaged it so that they would not have to pay the tax. 79 "And as for that young man, his parents were [true] believers - whereas we had every reason to fear that he would bring bitter grief upon them by [his] overweening wickedness and denial of all truth: 80 so we desired that their Lord should give to them in exchange one better than he in purity, and nearer in tenderness. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father had been righteous, and thy Lord intended that they should come to their full strength and should bring forth their treasure as a mercy from their Lord; and I did it not upon my own command. Such is the interpretation of that wherewith thou couldst not bear. 82
