۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
