(O Prophet), did you see him who turned away (from the Path of Allah), 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees? 35 Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses 36 and of Abraham, who to his trust was true: 37 Certainly no one will bear the responsibility of the sins of another, 38 and that nought shall be accounted unto man but what he is striving for; 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 Thereafter he shall be recompensed therefor with the fullest recompense. 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, 45 from an ejaculated drop (of sperm), 46 And that only upon Him is the next revival? 47 It is He who grants people temporary and durable wealth. 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 and that He it is Who destroyed the people of Noah before for they were much given to iniquity and transgression. 52 It is He who turned upside down the people of Lot 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 About which of the bounties of your Lord can they persistently dispute? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The approaching event has come near. 57 None except Allah can avert it. 58 Do you then wonder at this announcement? 59 Will you laugh at it rather than weep? 60 Will you remain proudly heedless? 61 So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him! ۩ 62
