The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and a few from later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
