The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
