In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
