Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 God told him, "Get out of the garden; you are rejected 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
