The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
