Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 and couches raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and outspread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
