The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
