The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it very near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
