The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
