So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And [through Our messengers] We revealed unto him this decree: "The last remnant of those [sinners] shall be wiped out in the morn." 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 and he told them, "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 "And fear Allah and disgrace me not." 69 They said; Have we not forbidden you from (entertaining) anyone? 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 By your life! they were blindly wandering on in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
