He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
