Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful

۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
