The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 purify your garments; 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
