The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
