He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
