As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 Devils divert men from the [right] way, while they think that they are rightly guided. 37 till, when he comes to Us, he says, 'Would there had been between me and thee the distance of the two Easts!' An evil comrade! 38 Because of the harm you did, it would be of no benefit to you today, you are partners in the punishment. 39 What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 Or show you some of what We have promised them. They are certainly well within Our power. 42 Hold thou fast wherefore to that which is revealed unto thee: verily thou art on the straight path. 43 The Quran is a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be questioned about it. 44 And ask thou Our apostles whom We sent before thee: appointed We gods, beside the Compassionate, to be worshipped? 45
