Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
