He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
