The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
