He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
