He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
