The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
