The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 He was created of spurting water 6 That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
