The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
