The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
